7. Goblin Cabs

“If you had the chance to change your life, would you?”

It was a strange question to hear on a street corner and the guy who said it was a strange-looking guy. He wore jeans, a sweatshirt and grubby sneakers, but his eyes shone brightly and his expression was impish.

“You don’t look so happy in that business suit,” he added.

Carly frowned as she realised she wasn’t very happy. She crossed her arms and stared at the slow moving traffic.

“Looking for a cab?” the guy added.

“Yes. I have a very important conference to go to. On investment strategies,” she said. Her boss had demanded she go in his place.

“Oh. You looked like you might be going somewhere else.”

“No I’m going to the conference.”

He raised his head and through the twilight appeared a taxi, “Look, lucky number seven!”

“Awesome. Must be the only free cab in the city this time of night.”

“If you get in this taxi, you must really want to change,” the guy said, as he opened the door for her.

“Thanks,” Carly said as she got in. The guy on the footpath waved and sauntered off into the crowds.

“Lucky to get this taxi,” the driver said. He also had bright green eyes, and surprisingly pointy ears., “A lot of people spend their whole lives waiting for it.”

Carly gazed out at the crowds.

The driver went on, “Some people can’t see it, and if they do, they don’t often have the courage to get in. So, the investment conference you said?”

“Mmm, I don’t know. What was the other destination?”

The driver nodded and smiled, as the cab drove through the city streets.

    • Thanks Bruce! It’s so good to be back blogging again. I almost forgot how to log on this morning. This weekend I will catch up on all the blogs. I will have “A Story a Day” marathon!

  1. Good for you, Carly! Wouldn’t it be great if we were all brave enough to step into the goblin cab?

Glad to see you back! We’ve missed you around here 🙂
