Sometimes Dwayne felt like he lived his whole life behind the eighth ball.
No matter how hard he worked, he never seemed to get anywhere with his writing. On a particularly grim and chill autumn morning, the reality of his situation hit hard. He was staring at eight rejection letters, the only response to the last year of hard grit.
He slumped in his chair and considered giving up his dreams, once and for all.
Then his eyes slid over to his bookshelves, where his short story and novel drafts lay, one on top of the other. He loved that stuff. Which meant that someone else somewhere, some day, might love it too.
He turned on his computer.
A full year and many rejection letters later, Dwayne found a publisher for his novel.
His proudest day was when it finally broke onto the best seller list, staying there for a week – at number eight.
